Coaching by Members for Members

Members training Spring/Summer 2026
Members training will be running again this year. Sessions cost £25 a day or £150 for the year. Making a day cost only £14 if booked as part of the season pass. So, book early and join us for a great summer of sailing. As an added bonus this year, club training boats can be used during the sessions without a subscription. So, if you want to try a different boat then this is your chance.
We run groups at a range of different standards for both youth and adult students. The minimum entry requirement is that you have completed your level 1&2 RYA learn to sail course. The first session will be run on a mixed ability basis to allow the coaching team to see everyone sail and to allocate people to ability groups. The dates this year are:

Sat – April 4th
Sat – April 18th
Sat – May 2nd
Sat – May 16th
Sat – June 6th
Sat – June 20th

Youth Regatta, Sat 5th September

This year members may sign up to all member coaching sessions for a heavily discounted rate in advance. Purchase of this season ticket gives the named sailor access to all 11 member coaching dates. Coaching is aimed at those who have completed RYA Level 2, all the way through to those regularly taking part in club racing.
The coaching team will contact you 2 weeks before each date to confirm attendance on the day, via a Microsoft Forms link.

Foundation Group – This group builds directly on the level 1 & 2 courses. The aim is to build your confidence in sailing and to make you an independent sailor who can rig, launch, sail and recover safely across a wide range of conditions. We normally run youth and adult groups at this level. Most of the students are newly qualified or returning sailors who have not sailed for a while.

Improvers Group – This group is suited to confident independent sailors. Normally this means a year and 100+ hours on the water since you qualified. Our objective it to introduce sailing as a sport and to build seamanship skills. We will teach more advanced techniques such as the roll tack and sailing without your rudder (Because nothing ever goes wrong). We will also introduce basic racing skills and support you in taking part in your first few club races. We normally run youth and adult groups at this level.

Club racing Group – This group is dedicated to regular club racers who want to move up trough the fleet. To join this group you will need to have entered a few club races and be willing to commit to attending the group and also to regularly entering club races on a Sunday or Wednesday. Like club racing, this group is a mixed youth and adult group.

In addition to our members training, the club also runs squad training for sailors who are or wish to compete at a higher level. We have both youth and adult squads based on boat class. If you wish to be put in contact with the squad organisers then please email training@bowmoor.com or membertraining@bowmoor.com, speak to any of the committee or look on the club notice boards. Squad coaching runs on different dates and is not included in the training subscription.
