Commodore's Note

It was great to see the response to the Work Party Day from swimmers and sailors including some of our youth members.  This meant that we were able to tackle the wide variety of jobs both inside and outside (even the weather decided to play ball!).  We filled an entire skip of rubbish form inside and around the Club. The Clubhouse and Deck are now looking smart although we still need to get more coats of oil on the Deck Rails and there is some re-grouting to do.  Every little bit of help counts since we do not have any staff, it’s down to us all to keep the Club looking and operating as we would wish. .

The big change was in the boat park where we now have the long-awaited canoe rack.   This will tack about 30 canoes or boards and will cost you £10 per boat.  That can now be booked via the website and added via membership-webcollect (Join Us).

Near the way in off the A417 you will have seen the new visitor’s centre/café being installed along with additional parking areas.  I’m not quite sure when it is opening but the aim was for the coming bank holiday weekend.  As that proceeds the path, fence and hedging is change at the northwest corner of the boat park field (we don’t own that bit) to create a new diagonal fence line and permissive path realignment.  No land has changed hands, but we have a formal encroachment agreement with Lake by YOO covering both areas affected.

I just want to congratulate Ian Davies for completing the London Marathon dedicting his run to father-in-law Rick Plummer.  Also, congratulations to Chris Williams who is slow walking his way back to fitness after a horrendous paragliding accident.  Chris is fundraising for the Air Ambulance that played such an important part in his survival.

News and Events
Come and Try – 29th April.

The Come and Try day is this Saturday when we invite people to try sailing.   It’s a great opportunity to invite friends down who may be interested in the sport and want to give it a go.  There will be experienced helms available to take people out for a sail.  Please use the booking system so that we can accommodate everyone who wants to try sailing during the period 10:30am to 15:30pm.

The lake will still be open and we will be supporting Otters and the Sprint Series at the same time.

Wednesday Night Racing

The Galley is planning a Lasagne for Wednesday night racing;  please book before you launch.

Remember the A417 will close at 19:00 through Fairford. Plan your route home accordingly.
