Good evening Sailors & Swimmers!
Another busy weekend at the club. While wind was again light for sailing, Rosemary Dillworth set the gold standard for external events when she stepped in and ran a very organised RS Aero winter training event on Saturday and Sunday. It could not have gone more smoothly. On Sunday we held the AGM and with so many likely to attend, on-site parking was a genuine concern. We’re extremely grateful for the support of our Swimmers in parking higher up the car park so that we could organize double row parking from 9:30 onwards. The Sunday morning swim continues to be popular, the carpark was 50% full before 9am. Many thanks to Rosemary!
The AGM minutes will be published in due course. The meeting was well attended with 65 present, which means we achieved quorum. The Bowmoor Articles of Association date back to the founding of the club in 1976 and contain a definition of quorum that is becoming outdated with our current membership numbers. A quorum is the minimum number of members required to be present at an AGM or EGM to allow business to be transacted. Historically, the number was set as 10% of the voting membership, when we had 250 memberships this was a workable solution. We now have ~600 family memberships which equates to over 1500 members interested in Bowmoor, but many do not attend meetings.
Typically we get around 40 people attending an AGM, which would not achieve quorum based on current membership numbers, this was the case 5 minutes before the AGM on Sunday and we intended to reschedule. Fortunately, that number rose to 65 within 10 minutes of the meeting start time so we could proceed.
It is time to update the definition so that the club can continue to operate. We intend to update the quorum requirement so that a quorum is defined as the lower amount of forty (40) members or members equalling one tenth of all memberships (on the date of the meeting).

Separately, the Bowmoor Supporters Club did not achieve quorum to hold an AGM and that meeting has been rescheduled to January 5th at 15:00.

Next weekend is quiet at the club, nothing scheduled for Saturday, usual format for Sunday, and the wind looks OK (WSW force 4 gusting force 5 at 12).
