Bowmoor Sailing Club
Bowsprit 9th October 2024

Commodore's Note

It’s exciting to see the return of the Supernova Shuffle, 1 st set of results below.  Each week our Supernova’s take the club results and apply a personal handicap based on Sunday racing.  This builds a really interesting competition where experienced sailors have to work hard to maintain their lead and new sailors can stretch themselves.  Many thanks to Pete Bingham for starting this back up!

The Supernova shuffle leader wears a yellow bib during club racing, this week Liz Fewings has that honour.

If you haven’t signed up already then Member training is happening on Saturday, details on the website.

Great news for Swimmers and Sailors: rain continues to top up the lake!  As always please avoid the grass and driving in the boat park.  Please don’t get stuck.

Early notice that our Annual General Meeting will be on the 10 th November at 15:00 for Bowmoor Sailing Club, followed by the AGM for Bowmoor Supporters Club.  An agenda for the meeting will follow, and a request for input, but please feel free to send any new business or questions in advance, details below.

Thank you!

Simon

News and Events
SailingFast Thames Valley ILCA Grand Prix

From Neil Crosby, Sailing Secretary

The Thames Valley ILCA open meeting circuit held its last three events in September culminating in a Bowmoor one-two with Richard Lymposs reclaiming the ILCA 7 title from Neil Crosby, who took it off him in 2023.  Neil needed first to qualify and also to gain a win and a second in the final three events to retain his title.  The first event was at Wembley where Neil was beaten into second place on countback, despite a first and a second, by virtue of being beaten in the final race.  Needing to repeat last year’s win at Frensham Pond, very light winds and circulating winds made it very difficult and he could only manage third place.  With a win at Island Barn, seconds at Bowmoor and Papercourt, and a third at Haversham, Richard took the title by a point from Neil with Andrew Hill-Smith, TV series co-ordinator, from Papercourt in third.

With Avon being cancelled at the weekend, the final event in the Wessex ILCA calendar is on Oct 19 th  at South Cerney.  Report and results to follow then.

Annual General Meeting – 10th November 2024

The Bowmoor Sailing Club AGM will be held on Sunday 10th November starting at 3:00pm. An agenda will follow. All other business or questions raised by members should be submitted to contact@bowmoor.com no later than 27th October.

The Supports Club AGM will follow on immediately after the Sailing Club AGM.

New Membership Type

The committee has decided to create a new membership for sailors between the ages of 26 and 30 to bridge the gap between being included in a Family or a youth member and the full membership fee.  This will be £180 per annum but with the renewal discount taking this down to £162.

Reach out to membership@bowmoor.com for more details.
