On Saturday we held the first dedicated Feva training under the expert management of an RYA regional coach. There were 7 crews out on the water all day and I was pleased to get unsolicited praise from the coach on the standard of our young sailors. That is testament to the dedication of our in-house coaching team and the organisation that makes it all happen. With stronger winds on Sunday many persisted to contest Race 1 in what became brutal conditions that saw half the racers drop out before the end. Hats off to Alex Davies and Ellie Pickard who persevered and enjoyed some screaming reaches under the spinnaker.
At the same time there was another RYA Race Coach Level 2 running form which we now have another 6 coaches qualified. That will help sustain Youth coaching and enable us to offer more opportunities to our adult members.
Once again we were scrabbling around on Saturday to generate a full race team after the safety boat crew and an AOOD had not responded to reminders of their upcoming duty not could be contacted; there will be follow-up action over this. Thank you to Jo White who bolstered the Race Team and to Alex who got in some powerboat practice during the afternoon race supporting Pedro Nunes who provided safety cover all day. We were certainly busy rescuing and aiding multiple capsized dinghies during the morning especially when a big squall blew through.
Mid-week we were celebrating an 800th consecutive daily swim. 800! Hat’s off to the indomitable Vicky Marchant who regardless of the weather, the water temperature or the ice has made it into the water either here on in the sea when away on holiday. If there is one other enduring feature is her beaming smile and cheerfulness. Thanks for the great sunrise photo too. |
