A brief Bowsprit this week.
Last weekend 9 of our young sailors completed their Assistant Instructor assessment and will join the Bowmoor instructor team. It is a really tough weekend, not just an assessment of their sailing ability, but will they represent Bowmoor and be able to coach new sailors with confidence. Many thanks to Phil White for running the training and congratulations to Zach, Sarah, Alex, Grace, Jasper, Lauren, Josh, Grace, and Josh.
Next weekend we’re hosting the third and final leg of the Cotswold Interclub youth regatta, we’re expecting around 50 young sailors to take part so we should a give a big thank you in advance to all those who are working hard to make this possible! I’m looking forward to the report for next week’s Bowsprit.
I’m also really pleased to let you know that Charlie Sansom will be stepping up to run the Sailing Committee in the role of Rear Commodore as we start working on the programme for 2025. Charlie has been Bowmoor Chief Instructor for several years so brings a wealth of knowledge with him. I also want to thank Tom for his support and looking after the Sailing Committee since stepping down to Rear Commodore in 2023. As Bowmoor is run by the membership we always support members who want to volunteer, please come and see Mike Dyer, Charlie or me if you would like to get involved, you are very welcome!
Below the photo: Congratulations to Paula on her fund-raising success with her 100-mile ride! Book onto the Winter Squad training for youth and adults, and Hour of Power has restarted after the summer break.
Don’t forget the swimmers supper on the 18th – see Bowsprit from last week.
One final ask (it’s a complaint): Please just stop parking in the boat park or close to boats, last week we had someone hit a boat while parking which is a massive pain for the driver and the boat owner. The rule is you must not park within 5 meters of the boat park. We have a carpark, please use it.
Happy sailing & swimming,
