Commodore's Note

Last week was roller coaster of great sailing, strong winds, fantastic results in Chichester, and boats being blown over in the boat park (please check your tie downs are secure and go around the mast etc).  Congratulations to our young sailors on their GCSE’s, A-Levels and job offers!

We also had the last Bank Holiday before Christmas, fantastic pursuit racing and a blustery RNLI Cup that raised £225.23, thank you!  For Monday’s pursuit races, Ian Aplin took first in both, followed by Lizzie Fewings 2nd overall and Geoff Silcock 3rd overall. The RNLI cup was won by Buzz Keck, with David Lynall 2nd and Will Morris 3rd.  Congratulations to all.

With only three Wednesday evenings left in the Club racing calendar it does feel like summer is coming to an end, but fear not, the programme continues all year and we have events planned for months to come – check out the calendar here.

Sailors who have gained their qualifications over the summer should consolidate with member training (adult & youth) or Otters & Sprints (family & youth).

Please see below the photo of Neil and Granddaughter sailing together on Monday for the Swimmers evening event on September 18th, member coaching, and a brief write up on Chichester.

For the weekend ahead it is great to see we have our next group of Assistant Instructors completing their training!

Swimmers Supper, Wednesday 18th September

From Adrian Waghorn

There will be a supper for swimming members and partners on wed 18 Sept to celebrate an excellent summer of swimming at the Club.

Swim beforehand; supper from 7pm; bar will be open.

Hacketts will provide the supper: Main (with veg option) + dessert, £10 per head.

Please put your name and numbers on the list in the Club House. The earlier the better, as we may need to limit numbers.

Bowmoor Member Coaching

From Maria Hinnigan

The last two dates for our popular Bowmoor Member Coaching have been released for booking.

12th October

There are limited spaces on each course.  8 for adults and 12 for children.

If you were booked a course earlier in the year and had that course cancelled, please rebook on these dates soon before the slots are taken, then email me to confirm the new date.

Chichester Harbour Race Week

First things first, save the date! 11th to 15th August 2025 has been confirmed for next year.

2024 was the 60th anniversary of Chichester Harbour Race Week and it did not disappoint!  The 5 days of racing gave entertaining conditions with Thursday racing cancelled while a storm blew through.  No day had light conditions which was mostly good news, although it sometimes felt pretty brutal and overpowered.  Except for the RS Elites and RS Tera’s each class has a single race every day with the Elites doubling up on Wed/Thur/Fri and the RS Tera’s doubling up every day.

All in, 27 sailors from Bowmoor took part and represented the club.  Top awards go to Charlie and Esther, but everyone did a great job in tough conditions of strong winds and spring tides.

If you want to know more about the event, speak to our competing sailors to get the inside track and think about joining in next year.
