Bowmoor Sailing Club
Bowsprit - 24th July 2024

Commodore's Note

A fantastic RIAT weekend was had by all.  Thank you to all the volunteers that worked so hard for the club.  I’m sure many of you are still recovering, I know I am!

For next weekend we have member training and the club and the Byte Squad is at Weymouth competing in the Byte and International Moth Lowrider National Championships.  The national sailing academy is a great venue to sail from, they’ll have a fantastic time!

Remember that on August 3rd we have the lake closed in the morning for the Lions Charity Swim and that as most of the schools have now stopped for the summer we are now out of term time and the activity board can’t be used to arrange 30 minute adhoc swimming during the week.

Congratulations to Rosemary and Stuart for their PSP and CBD fundraising, update below.

I’ll be at Weymouth this weekend supporting our sailors.  For those that make it to the club, have a great time!

Fund Raising for Beating Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) and Corticobasal Degeneration (CBD)

From Rosemary and Steve Callender

We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone at Bowmoor who has been so generous in buying some of Steve's glass artwork and glass pendants.   These were on display in the clubhouse over the Air Show weekend, and also a few weeks earlier.

In total the sales at Bowmoor Sailing Club have raised around £450 for the Progressive Supranuclear Palsy Association, a charity dedicated to supporting people affected by this degenerative neurological condition, and to finding a cure.

So a huge thank for your great generosity and support.  And we hope you enjoy the items you bought which were all made in Lechlade by Steve before he developed PSP.

Welsh Harp – Thames Valley ILCA grand prix series report

From Neil Crosby

On Saturday, Richard Lymposs and I travelled to Welsh Harp in London for the latest round of the Thames Valley ILCA grand prix series.  A fleet of 20 ILCA 7s and 3 6s completed 4 races in a shifty South Westerly. Local sailor Julian Bradley and I fought it out for the win with Julian coming out on top with two wins and a third against my three second places. Richard started badly (literally as he was over the line in the first race and had to go back). He had a much better afternoon with a 2nd and 3rd but was pushed back to 5th overall on countback. He still leads the overall standings going into the summer holiday break.

Boat Park Maintenance

From Andy Sharp & John Murrell

May we please put this little shout out to everyone as boat park Managers.  We had a good walk through the park on Saturday and there are a vast number of boat births that are looking very over grown. Could I ask they are cut as soon as possible please? This would be most appreciated, thank you.
