While I wasn’t planning to send out a Bowsprit this week, I’m on holiday, a couple of points have come up and I wanted to get a message out to our members.
Camp starts tomorrow – very exciting! Remember, if you are camping, take your rubbish home with you, the bins are already full and now for Galley use only. Thank you!
The Lakes by Yoo Boat House Consultation: A number of members have reached out to the exec to understand the club’s position regarding the consultation. We wanted to clarify that this isn’t a planning application at this point, but we will be sharing our concerns via the consultation process. Remember that we are in the unique position of owning our lake (Coln Park Lake) and proud to be a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) that sits within a country park. We have an obligation to protect the environment that we, as members, enjoy so much.
We will be presenting the following concerns:
- Proposal is a commercial venture and is not in keeping with the character of a country park.
- Negative impact on the environment, noise, light, biodiversity.
- Lack of parking.
- Safety, playground moved close to the road.
- Safety, measures are needed to prevent users of the event venue accessing the lake.
- The misleading impression that Coln Park Lake is part of the Yoo development rather than land owned by Bowmoor Sailing Club and that it can be used by non-members of the club as a ‘Sailing Lake’.
- The planning condition for a visitor centre has already been fulfilled.

Duty Man: OOD required for Sunday 9th June. We presently have no OOD allocated for this date so our racing is at risk.
Other dates that require volunteers are 9th June (AOOD) and 7th July (OOD).
