What a fantastic bank holiday weekend, it feels like spring is finally here.  The club was buzzing on Saturday with member coaching, otters and sprints.  Sunday’s easterly gave some fantastic racing with beats the length of the lake and by Monday, while the wind had turned light, it was time to run the 3-hour race.   Congratulations to Mark Hitchmough & Lizzie Fewings (3^rd), Alex Davies, Josh Pickard, Jay Bulkes and Jasper Keck (2^nd) and Sarah Davies & Esther Heathcote (1^st)!

Many thanks to all the members and volunteers who made the bank holiday so special.  There is much more to come in May, particularly camp, so keep an eye on the calendar.

The weekend of the 18^th May is RS’s 30^th Anniversary, many club RS sailors will be traveling to the event which means we unfortunately can’t run Otters and Sprints that day.  Member coaching will continue as usual.

Next weekend is this year’s first Ladies who Launch and Social Sailing, please come along on Saturday to join in, members usually gather from around 10:30 to 11am.  We also have 20 youth sailors travelling to South Cerney for the first of the 2024 Cotswold Clubs Interclub Regatta.

Tash Tustin continues to deliver on the mammoth task that is 2024 Bowmoor Camp.  This week’s update is the Friday 31st evening BBQ, all members welcome. To buy tickets for the BBQ, please click here to avoid disappointment (poster below)!

On the Saturday 1^st June, after camp, we host the largest youth event of the calendar, the Lakes By Yoo Regatta, details below.

Bookings are now open for our annual ‘Lakes by yoo’ sponsored Youth Regatta on Saturday 1st June. This is an Open Event to Visitors. Generous prizes. Entry only £10/boat. Join the 20 Bowmoor Youth sailors already entered.

Experienced racers welcomed along with novice sailors all encouraged to participate with plenty of support and prizes.

Over the weekend, Chris and I joined the Lark fleet for their annual pilgrimage south to Rock on the Camel Estuary for their early May Bank holiday Lark Open. Blessed with glamour conditions of sunshine, clear blue water and winds around the F2-3 range the small fleet of 6 boats enjoyed a series of 8 tight races. The near perfect conditions enabled easy passage over the notorious Doom Bar and the fleet to safely navigate the estuary to  race in the bay, making for a tactical race course with many many decisions needed for both wind and tide which varied dramatically across the course and throughout the day. I joined forces with ex Bowmoor member Emma Harris whilst Chris jumped last minute into the Lark fleet Demo boat which came with a crew!  It wasn’t all about the racing, we fitted in a boat trip to Padstow on the foot ferry, ice cream and many pasty’s!  Overall Emma and I won and Chris and Hannah came in 5th.

Next stop for the Larks are the Nationals sailing out of Weymouth Town Club over May half term.

For those who have indicted a willingness to support the grass-cutting effort, there will be training opportunities tomorrow, 9 May, starting at 15:00pm through to early evening.  This will cover the use of the John Deere tractor (for mowing) and the Husqvarna mower. The large area grass cutting will count as a volunteer duty.   Please email sailing@bowmmor.com to participate and your time availability on Thursday.
