Bowmoor Sailing Club
Bowsprit - 1st May 2024

Commodore's Note

The weather didn’t always cooperate for the members work party last weekend, however what a tremendous job was done by all involved.  A huge thank you for your time, effort and commitment to Bowmoor! As always, the work party was a really rewarding day with friends.  Mike has kindly written up a report below.

Next weekend is looking great, Otters, Sprints, and Member Coaching on Saturday, Hour of Power & Club racing Sunday, 3-hour race on Monday.  I believe we’re getting in some barrels of beer for the bar too!

This weekend’s 3-hour race is a trial of the format for the 10-hour race on July 6th.  Book on here or form teams on the day:

  • Registration from 09:30
  • Briefing 10:45
  • On water 11:30
  • Prize giving 16:00

The first 30 sailors to sign on get a free breakfast roll.

Camping: The ground is still too wet to drive on, and near the lake standing water forms every time there is rain.  We had a tent flooded last weekend!  This weekend, recommend camping away from the shore and above the dinghy park.  Hopefully the sporadic heavy rain will stop and we can return to using the grass as normal!

See you at the club,

Simon

Work Party - Saturday 27th April

More than 40 members came along on Saturday and worked tremendously hard across the boats, the grounds and the clubhouse.  To give you a flavour, the jobs completed included:

  1. All the powerboats had orange floating towing lines fitted.  And safety checks of all the emergency equipment.  Extra spare lines are hung up on the inside wall of the powerboat shed.

A huge thank you to everyone involved.  An awesome job, by everyone involved. Many thanks.

There is still a bit of painting to do, and several members have offered to help complete it.  If anyone else feels they could spare an hour or two, please let men know on vice-commodore@bowmoor.com

Thanks,

Mike

RNLI - Joan Tyrrell’s legacy

From Annie Catley

Many of you may remember Joan Tyrrell who passed away suddenly. She was the local fundraiser for the RNLI. I hope to continue Joan's commitment to the RNLI in Lechlade, with Greg as my ‘wing man’ and a little help from friends.

I hope to attend and help with the RNLI Cup race on 25 August and bring some RNLI souvenirs too.

Please contact me if you can spare an hour or so occasionally for the RNLI, or would like to be involved in any other way.

Look forward to meeting the sailors at Bowmoor.

Thank you.

Annie Catley.
