Commodore's Note

I was reminded of some fabulous conditions 3 years ago by a google prompt to my old photographs.  What it did not show my was all the planning we were doing to navigate our way through the early phases of Covid measures and the ever changing metrics from Whitehall.  I’ll leave the analysis on that to the government inquiry and just marvel at the wriggling and posturing going on against that backdrop.

Meanwhile, we have had a busy weekend with another bumper Youth training session.  A bit more wind would have been appreciated  by the squads and by those who raced.  Light winds and low temperatures made is a very cold Sunday and that has been a forewarning of what is hitting us throughout the week.  That might just mean the water temperature is falling rather than rising but I suppose it’s nothing compared to last year’s ‘Beast for the East’.  Oh, I nearly forgot, the wifi is back on at last.

Next weekend we have a Race Coach course running and Feva training with an RYA regional coach.  The forecast has eased off somewhat although Sunday may still be breezy which might make it an exciting day on the water.

Training

Camp 2023

Booking for Camp 2023 (31st May-2nd June) is now open, and will close on 15th March. Spaces in the youth groups are filling up, but there is still plenty of space in the adult and RS Feva groups. This year camp will include 3 days of great training, afternoon racing, and range of evening activities for adults and children. All sailors at camp will also receive a camp hoodie! Open Water Lifesaving - Training Courses

With open water swimming becoming increasing popular in the UK, Bowmoor Sailing Club would like to offer to members a two-day course which can literally help save lives. Book on the website soon, as all places were taken last time we ran these courses.

Rookie Life Saver Course.  2 Days - Under 16s

Two-Day Course, Wed 26th & Thurs 27th July 2023

Attendees will learn important life skills to recover themselves and others in water-based emergencies. This is the perfect stepping-stone for those that aspire to become RYA instructors in the future.

Open Water Life Saver course. Adults.

Two-day course, Mon 24th & Tues 25th July 2023

Tailored to those students who want to progress in their RYA instructor qualifications, or adults who want to learn essential life skills in water based emergencies. The course provides a pathway for anyone that aspires to become an open water lifeguard. However, it is also excellent development for RYA instructors and also provides essential safety skills for our open water swimmers.
