Last weekend was fantastic, everything that Bowmoor should be. The weather was perfect for our first Member Coaching of the year, we also hosted Byte and RS Tera class training, and much to the delight of our youngest members, Otters and Sprints are back! It takes some serious effort from club volunteers to organize, and just as much effort to deliver on the day. Many thanks to everyone involved setting this up and to all those who took part. For Member Coaching we now have a handle on where everyone is in their learning pathway and will break down into more granular groups. We also managed to squeeze in a local schools open day on Saturday, and will do more in the future.
On Sunday, Hour of Power restarted with Ellie and William coaching our young sailors who then spent the day racing - well done!
For Sunday racing, OOD Jackie Light dealt with a shifty, gusty, blustery northwest/north/northeaster in style from the committee boat to host three great club races. After 7 laps, I came off the water at the end of the first race feeling like I’d wrestled a bear for an hour, particularly on the south east side of the lake with the gybe round 4! After lunch the course was tweaked to bring mark 8 into play and racing continued. Thank you, Jackie, Graham, Maria, Emily, Andy and Mark.
Next weekend. Saturday 27th is our annual work party day. The lake is closed until 12:30. Please see the update from Mike below. From cleaning the club house, re-rigging training boats, or fixing the car park there is always something you can contribute. Bowmoor SC is a club run by members for members, so please join in.
As the season re-starts, please do take the time to familiarise yourself with the club rules summary. There are ongoing issues with evening swimmers using the lake in the wrong area at the wrong time, even with boats in the water. Please follow the rules just like every other member does.
Unfortunately the grass is still too wet to drive on ☹
See you at the club!
