A short update this week after last weekend’s Storm Kathleen put a stop to most of the activities at the club. It was a curious mix of warm sunshine with a proper wind chill. On Saturday morning, Alex Davies and Sarah Hinnigan went out for a blast in their Bytes, as the wind built James Hayden joined them in his H2 but by lunch time the lake was turned over to windsurfing.
On Sunday the swimmers enjoyed a choppy but sunny morning. While Club racing was cancelled, Phil Benn, Buzz Keck, Jamie Fewings and Dave Lynall still went for an exciting sail. Toby Banbrook flew across the lake, barely touching the surface with his windsurf board. They made it look easy, it wasn't!
Some great photo’s on Facebook from David Fewings.
I also had the pleasure of presenting the Lion’s charity Easter Egg to winner Niall Calvert. Collectively the club raised £200.00, well done everyone and congratulations to Niall!
Congratulations as well to Bowmoor's Aimee Bulkes (15yo) who came 16th in the ILCA 6 during the 2024 RYA Youth National Championships. You'll remember from the Laser & Byte Open report that she's just recovered from injury. Conditions for the week were really tough but Aimee's consistency is can be seen, she's clearly chasing down her 17/18yo competitors. Full results are here. Aimee will also be joining the Youth4Gold program in 29ers. Congratulations on her success!
Next weekend:
On Saturday we have the Phantom Open and there will be restriction is place when the event is on the water. We’re also running RYA Powerboat level 2 training. On Sunday club racing will return to normal.
The galley is now back to summer schedule and open on Saturday and Sunday. They are running an expanded menu which can be ordered earlier in the day for lunch time (see the menu board).
Take a look at the calendar below for the restart of Otters & Sprints (20th April) and the start of HOP (21st April), club poster below. |
