The wind deserted us all this weekend. For most of the time it was hard to see the far side of the lake; there was a rumour some of the swimmers were using foghorns! The one thing we all agreed on was it was cold and damp. Focusing on what could be achieved indoors, we concentrated on decorating the tree and clubhouse to give it a festive edge for our Christmas Dinner next Sunday. On that note, please make sure you book (see link below) before close of play Wednesday if you wish to participate.
The duty crew and a few very optimistic sailors appeared on Sunday morning. The glass-like lake surface was only disturbed by swimmers and wild fowl provoked discussions on what we ought to do (wind permitting) to shake up and improve our race offering to all members. There will be engagement through the class captains to develop some ideas that could entice more people to complete series and try some different formats form 60-minute fleet or handicap races. Let’s hope for sailing conditions this coming weekend.
It looks my next visit to the lake will be to complete the Santa Splash on Thursday at 12:00 hrs. My sponsorship tally is slowly increasing but any contribution would be gratefully received. https://events.combatstress.org.uk/fundraisers/tomwhittingham/santasplash The funds are for Mending Military Minds, part of Combat Stress. I’m out of my dinghy for this in swim attire… it’s going to be cold!
Maybe closer to home you may wish to support Julie Stockwin who is fund raising for Huntingdon's Desease in memory of Paul who sadly passed away last week. Our condolences go to Julie and all Paul's family. Both Paul and Julie were regular swimmers come rain or shine. |
