The wind was not cooperative on Sunday, we were left looking at a mirrorlike glaze across the lake unlike the afternoon and a sensible decision was made to cancel the planned Commodore’s and Coln Cup event. As sailable conditions arrived the race team set two back-to-back races - the ‘Fewings Flash’. There was a single start for each race and the results compiled into a 2-race series. As the afternoon progressed the wind continued to build to a point where boats were planing on reaches. Congratulations to Chris Hobbs (Supernova) who swept to victory with a win in the last race. It was worth waiting for! The Cup events will be rescheduled.
There should be no surprises that the ground is waterlogged. Despite the recent deluges of rain, the likely effect on grassed areas were not obvious to some and there is now an area badly chopped up by a van manoeuvring out of the boat park. Please do NOT drive or park on the grassed areas and boat park. If you chose to ignore this, do not be surprised if the Club pursues you to repair the damage.
The boat park is starting to look tidier. Firstly, numerous unused and decaying boats have been removed and this will enable the team to move some of the dinghies tacked onto the end of rows within the original boat park limits. There has also been an incredible amount to debris and old tyres amassed for disposal. Well done John Murrell and Stephen Tanner for all the efforts to sort this out.
