Commodore's Note

The Club was a hive of activity over the weekend.  The Saturday activities kicked off with Youth Training in parallel with the Tera Squad working hard for the visiting Class Coach, Caitlin.  As the day progressed the Ladies who Launch took to the water but the Cruisers though better of the weather and delayed until late in the afternoon.  The Chiseldon Scouts were on site in numbers canoeing and camping overnight.  Pulses of rain continued to come through until late Sunday morning but we were spared thunder and lightning.

We have almost disposed of all our old buoyancy aids, and I’m pleased to say we are approaching £200 in donations to the RNLI from members taking the buoyancy aids.  There are still a few available for collection this coming week/weekend.  Once they are gone that’s it and our new jackets will only be available to official training courses.

Buoyancy Aid Give Away

The Club is disposing of all the old buoyancy aids used for training.  There are a few of variety of sizes still available.   You may take them for a small donation (suggest £5 each) to the RNLI in the box provided.  The Club does not quarantee the old bouyancy aids.

As detailed above, the new Training buoyancy aids will not be loaned out for general use.

Practical Life Saving Course Monday 24th - Tuesday 25th July

The course is designed for anyone who want to learn essential life skills in water based emergencies. The course provides a pathway for anyone that aspires to become an open water lifeguard. However, it is also excellent development for RYA instructors and also provides essential safety skills for our open water swimmers, SUPers and Kayakers. The course is open to adults and youths.  Please book by Friday this week or the course is likely to be cancelled.

RIAT Weekend 14th -16th July

RIAT introduces a complex route plan in and around the area including temporary one-way systems, so it is worth checking their website to see your best route in and peak times to avoid a frustrating journey to the Club.

Lake by YOO will be controlling access with their café open for pre-booked clients only.  We, as members have a right of way.  Expect checks as you turn off the A417 so have your Bowmoor car stickers in place and it is advisable to have your membership card to hand.

There is no pre-booking needed for camping but be we will ask you to collect a ticket to attach to your tent or van unless it is already sporting a Bowmoor membership sticker.

You may bring guests but only within the limits (one family or 3 individuals).  They will need to pay for a temporary membership of £5/night as they would on any other occasion if they camp with you overnight.

The main gate will be locked throughout the RIAT weekend to enhance security.  We will be conducting membership and guest checks.

The Galley will be operating a service throughout the weekend including an evening service on both Friday and Saturday.  We are also expecting Tom Will’s pizza van on Saturday evening.  The bar will also be open on both nights.  There is everything you need for a relaxing weekend with an air show overhead.

Club Access Monday 17th July to Wednesday 19th July

There will be a very local diversion in place from Monday 17th July to Wednesday 19th July around the main entrance from the A417.  The works are to tarmac the access road include skimming existing surfaces to allow tie in of new areas and laying of new tarmac surfaces in two or three layers. This will require a fair bit of machinery and associated plant and delivery vehicles – all in quite a confined area.

The alternate route in will be by the Coln Farm site entrance – before the Manor House towards Fairford.   Although you can turn in from either direction, please note it is a left turn only exit (towards the Shell Station).
