Commodore's Note

The 5 Hour Race was well supported and challenging.  It was also very entertaining for onlookers as crew changes occurred with a differing degree of panache or misadventure.    The top spot went to Dave Lynall and Will Morris with Buzz Keck registered the fastest lap and securing second place with Chris Jenkins.  Rachel and Katie Jenkins came in as fastest ladies’ team, and equal 3rd overall with Toby Banbrook and David Nunn.  The top junior team was Josh, Zak and Jasper in a Tera Sport. The Blues Brothers were awarded the best dressed team! The full results are available on our Facebook page and will be posted on the website very soon. here.  I’m sure I am not the only one still feeling the effects of the hard sailing.   A big thanks to all those who managed and supported the race.

This coming weekend shod be equally busy with many activities planned for the Saturday.  This includes Youth Training, Tera Squad, Cruising Saturday, Ladies who Launch and Just Sailing.  Hopefully we’ll see the sun making a welcome return.

Last weekend we built the secure storage for the new Training buoyancy aids.  These will be used solely for training courses and not on general loan to members.  The old buoyancy aids will be made available to members from Saturday for a small donation to the RNLI.

The Club is disposing of all the old buoyancy aids used for training.  There are a variety of sizes from small youth to XXL adult.  These will be placed in the Clubhouse on Saturday at 10:00am.  You may take them for a small donation (suggest £5 each) to the RNLI in the box provided.  The Club does not quarantee the old bouyancy aids.

As detailed above, the new Training buoyancy aids will not be loaned out for general use.

RIAT Weekend 14th -16th July

RIAT introduces a complex route plan in and around the area including temporary one-way systems, so it is worth checking their website to see your best route in and peak times to avoid a frustrating journey to the Club.

Lake by YOO will be controlling access with their café open for pre-booked clients only.  We, as members have a right of way.  Expect checks as you turn off the A417 so have your Bowmoor car stickers in place and it is advisable to have your membership card to hand.

There is no pre-booking needed for camping but be we will ask you to collect a ticket to attach to your tent or van unless it is already sporting a Bowmoor membership sticker.

You may bring guests but only within the limits (one family or 3 individuals).  They will need to pay for a temporary membership of £5/night as they would on any other occasion if they camp with you overnight.

The main gate will be locked throughout the RIAT weekend to enhance security.  We will be conducting membership and guest checks.

The Galley will be operating a service throughout the weekend including an evening service on both Friday and Saturday.  We are also expecting Tom Will’s pizza van on Saturday evening.  The bar will also be open on both nights.  There is everything you need for a relaxing weekend with an air show overhead.
