Commodore's Note

I hope you all enjoyed the Coronation weekend,  there was something there for everyone, royalist or not.  The weather presented a few challenges in terms of maintenance around the Club but it all dried up late Sunday after the racing.  That prompted a mass Cadac cooker lighting and what was almost a paella festival on the Deck, and the consumption of a barrel of Stroud organic ale!  There were a noticeable few how did not seem to have a spring in the step the following day for the Coronation Cup ( I suspect the ice…).   However, we did get five teams of 3 sorted out and 2 good races to contest for the coveted Coronation Biscuits Boxes.   In what was closely fought throughout, the team the emerged triumphant was Esther Heathcote (Aero7),  Brian Millward (ILCA 6)and David Lynall and Sarah Davies ( RS200).  As mentioned before, the teams were a random draw to include a fast medium and slow handicap dinghy; the team scores being the total of the members.  The full results are available on Sailwave and we should have them on the website soon.

The YOO visitors centre café/bar is now open.  Please visit this on foot; do not enter of leave the lake from the shore by the centre.  This it to ensure visitors do not get the impression that there is public access to the lake.

Saturday May 13th is looking busy with RYA courses, Cruising Saturday, Ladies who Launch and Social Sailing.  All members are very welcome!  It’s got all the makings of another great weekend.

News and Events
Cruising, Ladies who Launch, and Social Sailing - 13th May

Saturday May 13th is the first Cruising Saturday, Ladies who Launch and Social Sailing day of 2023.  With weather improving and the water warming to match, this is an ideal time to get back in your boat.  These Saturdays are really popular, informal, and led by groups of members.  A power boat will be launched and can support with coaching as requested.  People start to gather from 11 am, agree a plan, sail together, and end the day with cake and drinks on the deck (Prosecco optional!).  All members are very welcome!.

Club Security

Over the last week, we have had Training and personal kit lockers left open and the main gate unlocked.   This is a major compromise of our collective security.  With the new visitors centre open, we’ll attract more attention from passing walkers so don’t invite trouble by being lazy over locking up.

Once you have your personal or Club kit out of the lockers, close the door and padlock it.  Likewise, when you return kit lock up again – it only takes seconds.  The main gate should be locked if you are the only person on site or the last, or almost last to leave.  Don’t leave it to chance.  Leave it and the Clubhouse locked when you go.

Club Facilities

As we transition to the summer there is some suggested revisiton for those who may not have been actively at the Club over the winter months.  Please refresh you understanding of:

Camping Protocols.

Water safety.

Also it is worth a quick check though the rules summary you were all sent on renewal or recent joining  to see where you can park a car.  Thank you.
