Bowsprit - 9th July 2025

Commodore's Note

Good Evening Bowmoor!

Firstly, I'm really pleased to say that we haven't had the anticipated weed growth so far this year as the lake dye (food grade and approved for use in the SSSI management plan) has proven effective.  The calendar will be updated to remove the lake restriction on the 14th, 15th and 16th as a result.  We may still need a cut later in the year so will continue to monitor.

I want to thank Al Keck for organising the Life Jacket 50+ sunscreen dispenser (photo below) that we installed just inside the club house door over the weekend - please do use, it's excellent stuff.

I also want to thank Dave Lynall, David Fewings, Sally Heathcote, Nigel Fletcher and the whole team running the excellent 8hr race last weekend, results and write-up below.  Fantastic day!

Finally, many congratulations to Richard Leftley who became the Hadron H2 National Champion last weekend.  Race report here, looks like they had some pretty tough conditions at the WPNSA. Well done Richard!

Next weekend, don't forget we have member training, ladies who launch and cruising Saturday.  Should be great fun!

In a few weeks we have RIAT weekend, I'm particularly looking forward to the Under the Smoke Regatta, more to follow on that closer to the time!

Finally, Mike Read has sent over the poster for the 2nd August Lions Charity Open Water Swim.  The team are working hard to keep the Lions Community Minibus on the road, so please support.

See you at the club,

Simon

8 Hr Race
From Rachael Jenkins

What. A. Day.
⛵
16 teams. A mix of single and double, handers. 8 hours on the water, and conditions that made sure no one had it easy!
We were also very pleased to welcome sailors from Avon Sailing Club, and what a day they picked. The forecast promised breeze, but what we got was next-level: epic racing in a shifting southerly that swung west, gusts touching 30 knots, and wind so patchy your neighbour could be becalmed while you were flattened.
Capsizes were plentiful, classic death rolls, unexpected holes to windward, or just blown clean over. At times it was pure endurance sailing, and there are definitely some aching bodies today. Type 2 fun in full effect… but the smiles said it all.
Despite or maybe because of the conditions, teamwork won over and almost every team made it to the end, an epic achievement.
The day wrapped up in true Bowmoor style: BBQ, live music, and a disco that kept the dance floor going into the early hours (for those who hadn’t already used up all their energy on the water).
Thanks to everyone who took part, supported, and made it a memorable one. Big thank you to Rooster for sponsoring the event and congratulations to the winning team Will and Buzz who also won the fastest lap time. First youth team Luke, Archie and Catherine.  See you next year!
