Commodore's Note

Sunny Days and Long Evenings!

Like so many of us, I’ve been stuck in the office while the sun shines, and can not wait for the weekend!  The weather for May bank holiday weekend looks fabulous, 16°C and moderate breeze could give some champaign sailing on Sunday:
Saturday will call for sunscreen on our first member coaching of the year (Youth and Adult) I’ll include the links to sign up below if you haven’t already.  We have a really exciting training program planned for 2025.  As training progresses we’ll also broaden out into double handers and spinnaker training so this is a huge opportunity to gain valuable coaching.  Youth who are competing and representing Bowmoor will also be given our new, very smart, Bowmoor logo’d race bibs to wear and keep.

The galley will be open, our bar managers have been busy making sure that the bar is well stocked and charcoal is available, I can’t imagine a more relaxing weekend.

For those that couldn’t find it in last weeks Bowsprit, Matthew English was the lucky winner of the Lions Easter Egg Raffle.  Well done Matthew, and sorry it was missed last week (I’ll talk to the editor)!

You'll see from the photo below that we have bought very smart a new pool table.  Please do enjoy, but can I ask that you cover the table after each use, only use green chalk, and obviously, no food or drink near the table and no wet clothes near the table.  Thank you!

See you at the club!

Simon

Youth & Adult Member Training

From Graham Fletcher.

Now that summer, or at least spring, is upon us, it’s time to start our summer training program.  This year we will be running the training in three parts.  Firstly the club will be continuing to train beginners through the usual RYA 1&2 courses for both children and adults.  These excellent courses are a great introduction to our sport.  We will also be continuing to run our “squad” training that target competitive sailors. You know who you are, so look out for opportunities to build on your skills with training inside and outside of the club.

New this year, is a training program to bridge between these two groups.  So, if you have just finished your RYA2 or if you did it last year and have done nothing since, the new youth or adult member training is for you.  Several groups will be running, so there will be an ability group for everyone.  It’s a chance to sail and learn with other sailors and to work with some of our excellent coaches.  The program will run every other Saturday starting on 3rd May until 1st November.  Individual sessions will cost £25 each, or all 12 for £120. This is an awesome opportunity for all our sailors.  I look forward to seeing you on the 3rd of may.
