Commodore's Note

The four day Easter weekend was a really appreciated break, and while the weather didn’t always cooperate we had great sailing on Sunday (Beryl Edmonds Cup) and Monday (Sprint Racing).  The current estimate is that we have around 1,800 people who have family membership and could come to the club; many thanks to the 1,799 who did not drive on the grass last weekend😊Please continue to stay off the grass, it is far too wet to drive on.

With so many people who could visit the club, car parking becomes as issue.  Please park in double rows, leaving space for members to access the cruising section boats at the back of the car park.

We’ve the working party coming up on the 27th, please put that date in the calendar!  Many thanks already to Tim Embley for the grass cut in the play park and training park, Jonny Heathcote for fixing the tap in the members kitchen, and Bowmoor’s very own undercover gardener for the planted-up Optimist at the gate (supported by Steve Tanner).  Thank you all!

This week we have the Dinghy Instructor Pre-Assessment on Wednesday, and the Assistant Instructor Pre-Assessment and Member Coaching on Saturday.

Many thanks to Pete Woods, John Banbrook and Doug Roberts for their help as OOD over Easter weekend.

Remembering Joan Tyrrell

From Mike Read
It is with a sad heart to inform you of the recent loss of Joan. The Tyrrell’s  were a dedicated sailing family back in the 80’s and early 90’s.  Their children Kieran and Sussie were keen Optimist sailors, Greg sailed a Laser and Joan was an avid Topper sailor. In those days the Toppers, Lasers and Optimists had their own starts and Joan was the Topper Fleet Captain for several years. As we moved to the new lake, the family moved in non sailing directions but Joan was a RNLI North Cotswolds funding coordinator (20 years plus) and was often seen in the clubhouse picking up our RNLI Charity box.

Her memorial service will be at Swindon Crematorium on 10 April at 10:30.
Our thoughts are with her family.

News and Events
Easter Weekend Sailing Report

Beryl Edmonds Cup

Easter Sunday gave fantastic sailing conditions, albeit from the north east.  Thirty two sailors competed, in third was Buzz Keck, 2nd Sam Fewings, but Toby Banbrook controlled the event from the start with (2), 1, 1 earning a very well deserved 1st place.

Sprint Racing

The wind dropped for Easter Monday and Doug opted to run four sprint races, a popular format.  Jacky Stagg was 3rd, Phil White 2nd and Richard Leftley took 1st.

Congratulations, and many thanks to the Easter weekend race team!

Come and Try 20th April

From Tom Whittingham
We are holding a schools targeted Come and Try on Saturday 20th April from 10:00 to 14:00.  This is designed to overlap with Club training activity to showcase what we can offer to young sailor development (and parents).  We need helms, some power boat drivers to deliver the on-water activity and a shore party to manage time allocations, safety equipment and talk to prospective members. and what the Club has to offer and training options.    Please email sailing@bowmoor.com to volunteer.

Why not invite friends from School/Collage to join in the fun on April 20th.
