Last week was another busy time at the Club with RYA adult and youth novice courses and 6 new dinghy instructors gaining their qualifications. Congratulations to Simon and Maria Hinnigan, Sarah Pickard, Sarah Davies, Martin Carr, and Matthew English. As this was going on there was also to great deal of boat preparation and packing for the Chichester Harbour Dinghy Week, and a little further afield tow of our young sailors were on the Isle of Wight for the RS Feva Nationals – see the report below.
By Sunday numbers at the Club had dropped dramatically and there was only a small cadre remaining for the racing. While the day started relatively quietly, by the time the second race kicked off it the wind had strengthened and became really gusty. It was a brutal session afloat but miraculously it all calmed down by the third race and that encouraged 4 novice racers to participate and that was great to see.
This week there is no training; not surprising since most of our training team are away on the south coast. However, on Monday it all starts again with full course rosters and hopefully the good weather will continue. I hope we get on top of the grass cutting by then.
Over the Bank Holiday we are staging the RNLI cup on the Sunday and pursuit racing on Monday. I should also draw your attention to Wednesday 6th Sep which will be the last formal Wednesday Evening Race. Let’s hope for a good turn-out on the start line and at the bar afterwards! |
