Charlie Sansom - Rear Commodore Update
The arrival of the first summer weekend brings with it the changing of the clocks and a return to our three-race Sunday programme. We start the season this Sunday with the Beryl Edmunds Cup, which will be the first event to follow our new afternoon racing schedule. This format sees afternoon races run back-to-back and will remain in place throughout the summer months, alongside our established Fast, Medium, and Slow handicap start sequences on Sundays. Looking slightly further ahead, Wednesday evening racing returns on 8th April, maintaining the Fast and Slow handicap split used in previous years.
It has been a significant week for our shoreside projects as well. Our committee boat is back in service following a fresh refurbishment and is looking ready for a busy season. Its return coincided with the delivery of our new safety boat, a welcome addition that brings the club back to a full complement of equipment. Having the fleet at total capacity ensures we are well-prepared for the busy calendar over the coming months.
As we transition into the new schedule, we can also look back on a successful winter of racing. The final results for the Icicle and Frostbite series are included below. It was encouraging to see such consistent participation despite the conditions, with 27 qualifiers in the morning and 17 in the afternoon series across the three fleets. |
