Hello Bowmoor Sailors & Swimmers!
Last week saw the end of our Wednesday evening racing for 2025, this weekend we have the Comet & ILCA open on Saturday and we conclude the Summer Series on Sunday. It feels like the weather is rolling into Autumn and I'm looking forward to the fantastic sailing conditions that season can offer. Our windsurfers have definitely been enjoying the wind recently.
We're also going to be starting work on reedbed restoration from next weekend, if you walk around the lake you'll see sections of short fence put up to protect the reeds where they are being eroded by the low water level and people walking down to the edge of the lake. This is part of our ongoing plan to manage the lake habitat and our Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) status.
On September 28th we have the Commodore and Coln Cups before the winter series starts in October.
As always when the conditions change, please do take 5 minutes to look at the risk assessment matrix in the activity hut and on the notice board before going out or in the water. Remember to tie down your boats!
Last weekend was the annual Bart's Bash, many thanks to Ian Pickard and team for running the racing, Doug Roberts for doing all the admin and Kate Tustin for organising the collection - we raised £180 for the Andrew Simpson Foundation.
Finally, I really want to thank David Nunn for his hard work in repairing the deck and replacing each of the railing posts. A huge task on its own, and he also took the time to rebuild each of the steps onto concrete foundations. It looks great and is really solid.
Thank you to all those members who respected the ban on anything but gas powered BBQ's. The ban is now lifted, but you can only use off the ground fire pits and BBQ's and do not dispose of burnt wood or coals around the club grounds.
See you at the club!
